• Create emphasis through visual hierarchy.
• Create unity.
• Create balance. Types of balance include symmetry, approximate symmetry and asymmetry
• Consider format-Both the actual physical vehicle of communication as well as the limitation of that vehicle
• Use grid as underlying anchor for visual elements to create consistency.
